Hypertension affects an important part of the adult population in our country as well as all over the world. Hypertension has a high impact on the quality of life of the individual and also leads to high morbidity and mortality. It is necessary for patients to continue their blood pressure control, to comply with drug treatment and other recommendations and to make rational use of antihypertensive drugs. Pharmacists play an important role as primary health care providers in ensuring the continuity of treatment. In this preliminary study, it was aimed to evaluate the consulting role of pharmacists in the treatment of hypertension. For this purpose 54 pharmacists randomly selected among pharmacies in Istanbul conducted a questionnaire survey between March-May 2015. The results were analyzed statistically and percentage values were calculated. According to the results, pharmacists were found to be partially effective in rational treatment of hypertension, monitoring and patient education. It is considered that the pharmacist's counseling role and the rational drug use in the treatment of hypertension will be increased by increasing the in-service training of pharmacists.
