Özet

All the facility constructions, either old, abandoned, wrecked or the new, updated, contemporary have a contribution to the history because the spatial surroundings of a city are a part of collective memory (Halbwachs, 1950). Innovative mnemonic actors have the potential to impact the society with creative ideas about repurposing those heritage sites (Aksu et al. 2024). Our case study is about a municipality organization that reshapes collective memory by revitalizing the forgotten about abandoned, while repurposing industrial heritage sites as public buildings. By doing so, transforming spatial environments, in other words transforming the materiality to mnemonic artefacts. Those mnemonic artefacts create a vividity on the past while serving a contemporary purpose. We argue that this innovative usage of the remnants or relics of a collective past is a creative memory work (Coraiola et al., 2023) due to its multi temporal approach to the cultural or industrial heritage preservation, which creates also a paradigm shift in cultural heritage preservation. Qualitative data is collected from the municipality organization to elucidate the role of mnemonic actors connecting past, present and future in the production of innovation. The interpretation of data presents a memory work of the municipality organization that includes rhetorical decisions of legitimization. Key words: Mnemonic actors, industrial heritage, temporal work, collective memory, sociomateriality, multi-temporality, facility management.
