Abstract

47 methyl alcohol intoxication were evaluated retrospectively, whose autopsies were carried out in the Morgue Department of the Council of Forensic Medicine of Turkey within five years between 1990-1994. % 85.1 of the cases in male in sex and with respect to age, % 36.2 of the cases is in 41-50 age group, % 29.8 is in 31-40 and % 17.0 is in 51-60. % 76.6 of the cases belongs to 1994 and it has been observed that there has been an increase in the rate of intoxication lately. Blood methanol level causing intoxication is % 150-300 mg in % 46.6 of the cases. Minimum and maximum blood methanol levels determined, blood and urine amounts of other substances and metabolites determined some cases, histopathologic findings of organs have also been evaluated in the research. In all of the methanol intoxication cases, in which the way and the way and the reason of consumption were determined, it was noticed that methyl alcohol was used similar to ethanol drinking.
