Abstract
What happens when the theatre stage is no longer understood merely as a backdrop for action, but as an active condition of perception, presence, and meaning? This book argues that the shift from stage decoration to scenography is more than a change in design practice; it represents a paradigm shift in our understanding of space.
Drawing on theatre history, philosophy, and stage design theory, the work traces an understanding of space as a relational, embodied, and historically produced structure through pivotal moments in theatre history. It places scenography at the center as a practice in which visibility is organized, experience is shaped, and the relationship between stage, body, and audience is redefined.
Thus, scenography also emerges as a critical tool for re-examining the arrangements of representation and spatial experience in theatre.
