Abstract

The anterior femoral curvature of 73 Turkish femora have been studied and the maximum length, the position index and the index of curvature were the criteria used to evaluate them. The results were compared with the previous studies on the anterior femoral curvature of different races. Turkish femora are longer and less convex than the Indian and American Indian femora but shorter and more bowed than the Black American femora. Turkish male femora are only slightly shorter than the White American male femora but Turkish female femora are considerably shorter than the femora of White American females. Turkish femora are more curved and their maximum curvature point is more distally located than the White American femora for both sexes.
