Özet

Climate change is not only an atmospheric event, but also the destiny of humanity. It is an undeniable fact that our world is getting warmer. Rather than being homogeneous, this increase takes place at different degrees in different regions. Even though we did not cause this, the negative consequences of global warming and desertification will be seen more clearly in the southern belt where Turkey is closely located to the region and it will get its share. Since achieving a successful result on a global scale requires cooperation of all countries therefore precautions how to keep carbon emissions at a certain limit are also continued to discuss. However, these measures require radical changes not only on the production methods of countries but also consumption of people's habits. While international cooperation efforts to reduce the global warming continue, how can we, as Turkey, minimize the negative effects of global warming with the measures we have to take ourselves? This subject constitutes the main focus of the article. The relationship between global warming and agriculture points out to an urgent need so called danger of starvation which has the most basic priority in Maslow's pyramid. Since the inadequacy of agricultural products will be a problem for all countries in the world, you will not be able to import them even if you have plenty of money. Therefore all effort should be given to enhance arable agricultural lands and Turkey should develop agricultural policies in order to reach a self-feeding potential. According to UN data, the geographical zone in which Turkey located is among the areas that experience severe drought in the coming decades. Considering 71% of our current fresh water resources are used for agricultural irrigation, we should make the plans to end traditional irrigated agriculture ways and turn them into the modern methods. Otherwise, we will be in danger of not being able to find clean water in homes and industries. Additionally the ministry data emphasize that 56% of Turkey's surface water resources and 31% of underground water resources are highly polluted. Accordingly, necessary measures should be taken to protect existing water resources and prevent them from being polluted. Social solidarity and acting together are crucial for the success of the above-mentioned measures. In parallel with the measures to be taken by the government, an education campaign should be started in every platform from family to school, from mosque to barracks, in order to raise awareness of all members of the society on this issue.
