This course aims at familiarising students with the canonical texts of the English comic novel tradition from the eighteenth to the early twentieth century. In this respect, it aims at helping students identify the general characteristics, themes, and narrative techniques of the novels belonging with this tradition and possibly understand them in the wider political, economical, and social contexts and concerns of the English novel.
