This course aims at familiarising students with the comic tradition in the English literary canon and analysing the changing faces of that tradition from late fourteenth-century to early twentieth-century. In this respect, it aims at helping students identify the general characteristics, themes, and narrative techniques of these texts and possibly understand them in the varying political, economic, and social contexts and concerns of the English literary canon.
